1924-1966 LATER YEARS
Walt Disney was born in Chicago, IL on December 5, 1901. In 1906, his family moved to a Missouri farm, where he had a boring childhood and first learned to draw. The farm failed, and in 1911 his family moved to Kansas City, MO where he woke up at 3:30 a.m. to deliver newspapers. He followed a way his dad used when he was the paperboy. In 1917, his family moved to Chicago, where Walt created cartoons for his high school yearbook, took classes at the Art Institute of Chicago, and tried to enlist in the U.S. Army and was rejected for being underage, he joined the American Ambulance Corps and arrived in France as World War I ended. When Walt returned to the United States, he settled in Kansas City and got a job at an art studio. In 1920, while working at an ad company, Walt discovered the fantastical world of animation and and was excited at first sight. While keeping his day job, he began making Laugh-O-gram ad reels and animation shorts with artist Ub Iwerks. Laugh-O-grams Films soon went bankrupt.
These are the golden ages for Walt because this is when he started to make movies. In 1937 he created Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs. The movie was a big hit expecially in Japan. This happened bacause Walt and Japans leader/president signed an agreement to release it to them early because he had faith in Walt that it would be good. In 1932 Walt received his first Oscar. In the same year he won his first competitive Oscar for the short Flowers and Trees. The honorary award was for a much better known name, Mickey. It celebrated Disney's creation of Mickey Mouse, the iconic character who launched the company's fame, wowed audiences with sound, and laid the foundation for decades of animation. In 1966 he was schedueled to do a check up for his smoking addiction. When he was there they found a tumor in his left lung. The doctor said he only had 2 years and 6 months to live. Then at 9.28 p.m Walt had passed.
